Waste Not Want Not Salvaging is a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization offering verified community service hours for court requirements in Marin County.
We provide structured, supervised, and documented court-approved community service placements for individuals completing traffic, misdemeanor, DUI, diversion, and other court-ordered community service obligations, as well as opportunities for non-court volunteers.
Our work is based in the Novato service area and focuses on meaningful, task-oriented service that meets both community needs and court requirements.
This program is appropriate for individuals seeking to complete required community service, including:
Traffic, misdemeanor, and DUI community service placements
Court-referred individuals completing probation or diversion requirements
Diversion program participants
School or college-required community service
Non-court volunteers seeking structured service opportunities
Individuals are commonly informed that community service may be completed at any registered 501(c)(3). Waste Not Want Not Salvaging meets this requirement and provides verification as needed.
Volunteer placements are based on current community needs and the volunteer’s skills, interests, and comfort level. Available tasks may include:
Clerical and computer-based work
Sorting, organizing, and processing donated materials
Outdoor work and site support
Moderate to heavy physical activity and manual labor, as appropriate
This flexibility has helped volunteers remain engaged and successfully complete required hours.
All volunteers are personally supervised on site by the Site Manager / Volunteer Coordinator. Clear expectations are set at the start of service, including assigned tasks, conduct standards, and time tracking procedures.
We provide verification of community service hours for court requirements in accordance with standard documentation practices.
As a court-approved community service 501(c)(3) nonprofit, we have prior experience working with individuals referred through Marin County courts and diversion programs.
We are open to working with youth and juvenile court-referred volunteers on a limited basis.
When working with minors, a release signed by a parent or legal guardian is required. Due to the structured and task-oriented nature of the work, placements are primarily designed for adults and older youth capable of independent task completion.
